Interview questions for Daniela
Waaaay back, I answered some interview questions and Daniela bravely stepped up to be subjected to my questions. Here they are, finally:
* You're originally from Czechoslovakia/the Czech Republic, right? Where all have you traveled to? What are your favorite places?
* If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
* Describe your perfect Feast. (This question was stolen/paraphrased from Umm Yasmin)
* There's often tension between the mystical and more orthodox sides of faith. Do you think this is inevitable, or can there be a balance? If they can't be balanced, which is more important?
* Okay, I give up. What on earth is a gaddar?

Update: Daniela's answering in installments. Here are her responses to Questions 1, 2, and 3.

I feel like I've done something horribly offensive and don't know what, since someone just appeared here and frowned -- "a person like me, who smiles at almost anyone i see", no less. Hmm.
but i guess its better to let her answer it ;-)
btw, can i squeeze in a small q?
isnt faith overrated? (/me ducks for cover)
@Neuro: you're cheating?! if you want to ask questions and give answers, you need to properly volunteer, either to Sarah or to me, with 5 questions!!!
and u Abdul, why the frown???
/me confused!
though i have a feeling that i might be lacking the capacity to .. :-D (/me bows before eddie murphy)
No need to duck for cover. :)
The answer that first came to mind was that if you have faith, you think it's underrated; if you don't have faith, you think it's overrated.
But really, it's a pretty broad issue. Overrated how? By whom?
Daniela (or do you prefer Daku? I guess I never asked...), this isn't spam, this is conversation!
@sarah - no need to duck!!! its not u i was ducking from. its the dreaded daku. did she never tell u why ppl call her that!
and the first answer was, well, sort of a tv-evangelist one :-) but the questions were deep... by whom? i wonder if there r ppl who just have faith, live their entire lives in faith and never think about it! but then is it faith or habit?
@Sarah: daku or daniela is fine, thanks (-: btw daku means dacoit/bandit in Hindi.
@Everyone: as far as faith being underrated or overrated... this also depends on the definition of the faith. I think it is pretty difficult to have faith at times, in the truest sense. It does require courage. It's not something that sticks with you, and everything is fine from that point onwards. Abdul-Baha defined faith as "first, conscious knowledge, and second, practice of good deeds." well this has given me some more food for thought and blog... hopefully i'll get to this soon.
I think you've hit it on the head there. If faith isn't examined, isn't tested, then I don't think it can really be faith, just habit. I like what Daniela has to say about it, and I've been thinking a lot on it, too.
On another note, it's really cool to have everyone drop by here. I hope you keep coming back and adding to the conversation.
